Addiction Therapy in the Isle of Man
Addiction Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is widely recognized as an effective approach in treating addiction due to its focus on identifying and modifying thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to substance use. In the context of addiction treatment, CBT works by helping individuals recognize and change the negative thought patterns and beliefs that perpetuate addictive behaviours.
Through structured sessions with a therapist, clients learn to identify triggers that lead to substance use, such as stress or certain environments, and develop coping strategies to manage these triggers effectively. By challenging distorted thinking and promoting healthier behavioural responses, CBT empowers individuals to break the cycle of addiction.

Addiction Therapy Approach
CBT in addiction treatment emphasizes skill-building and practical techniques that support long-term recovery. Clients are encouraged to develop specific coping skills, such as problem-solving, stress management, and refusal skills, which enhance their ability to resist urges and maintain sobriety.
This approach also incorporates elements of relapse prevention, where clients learn to anticipate high-risk situations and apply CBT strategies to navigate these challenges without resorting to substance use. Overall, CBT provides a structured, evidence-based framework that addresses both the psychological and behavioural aspects of addiction, fostering sustainable recovery and improved quality of life for individuals seeking treatment.

Therapy that can make a difference!
CBT is an evidence-based therapy that explores the link between how thoughts can impact how you feel and behave. The therapist and client work together to look at more beneficial thinking styles, creating positive feelings and altering behaviours. CBT has a good evidence base for a wide range of mental health problems in adults, older adults, children and young people. CBT is the first-line treatment for mental health problems and is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. CBT can be used if you are on medication that has been prescribed by your GP. You can also use CBT on its own. This will depend on the difficulty you want help with.
